-------The Glory Days Of Defeat-------
The glory Days of Defeat...what comes to mind? The 101st domination era? Perhaps when
NUDE, NT, 101st and 63rd were all top invite teams chasing the title. Who could forget
the various Check-Six vs. coL championship matches? Whether you were idolizing Hannibal
back in the betas or just recently being wowed by Kellens clutchness, you have to admit
one thing. The game was damn fun! Now why can’t it still be fun? Now what has changed in
the community from then to now?
The first thing that comes to my mind is the competition. There are no longer those 4 or
5 teams that strive to be the best. Instead we must settle to scrim against pugs and
foreign teams. I had a chance to play calibans team the other night and I must say it was
a blast playing an actual organized team. From my months of playing source (last year it
was cod2 LoL) I’ve realized how much more fun I was having even pubbing 1.3! What’s
personally stopping me from making the switch back? There’s nobody to play against! Give
me 2 or 3 teams that are striving to be the best and I’ll be all over DoD again!
Now let’s check out a few organizations that had DoD divisions in late 2006. We have coL,
x6, JMC, Pandemic, MnM! If these top of the line gaming organizations can see potential
in DoD then why can’t our community any longer? Our community really needs to stop
jumping on bandwagons. “DoD is Dead!”. I admit I’m guilty of going along with that one
too. If you’re like me though, then you just love playing 1.3. That has not changed in
the six years I’ve been playing the game.
Hmmm…..Now what else has changed? Oh yeah, stop pretending that you’re playing for the
money! We, Pandemic, placed 3rd at the largest DoD LAN ever and were only awarded $800
each. I mean come on, most people make that much money working in a week. It’s just an
EXCUSE to try hard.
Perhaps the Glory Days are long gone. Perhaps there are still some historic moments left
in the DoD timeline. All I know is that I want to be a DoD tryhard for a little bit
longer. I know you wanna play the game, so play! |
