After a short flight across the ocean, Team Pandemic wasted no time
establishing themselves as the favorites for the inaugural World Series of Video
Games event for 2007 in Wuhan, China. With the most PVP World of Warcraft
experience in the field, the team cruised through the Group Stages to make it
into bracket play. After two solid victories over some Chinese
opponents, the team met up with Fnatic in the Upper Bracket semi-finals.
With Fnatic composed of some of the best gamers in the world in Sander "vo0"
Kaasjager, Jay "2GD" Harding, and Alex "ztrider" Ingarv, many wondered how this
would translate to the WoW competition. They didn't fail to impress and
put a great fight against Team Pandemic, but in the end the plethora of PVP
experience paid off. After defeating Fnatic, Team Pandemic moved on to the
Upper Bracket championship where they met up with the only other American team
in the field, Mob *Turtle Power*. After a stunning round one loss,
Pandemic regrouped and easily went on to win the final three rounds to take the
match 3-1. At this point, it was Pandemic's tournament to lose and they
sat in the championship waiting for their opponent. Fnatic defeated Mob
*Turtle Power* to setup the rematch with Team Pandemic in the finals. In
front of the monster crowd, everything seemed to go Pandemic's way. They
easily won the finals with a 3-0 score and didn't even have a death. The
reality is that the match was a lot closer than meet's the eye and Fnatic played
extremely well all tournament. With another few months under their belts,
they could be a scary team in 2007. With the championship, Team Pandemic
won the first major World of Warcraft tournament and more importantly, got off
to a strong start in the 2007 World Series of Video Games. Team Pandemic
will be looking to continue this success in Louisville, Kentucky in June.
