| CEVO-P CS 1.6 Week 1:1 Predictions |
|
| Posted By: Edward Chang on: 01/24/07 at 10:37AM |

Tomorrow night, the fourth season of CEVO Professional for 1.6 will begin
play. With a lot of the focus on the recent move to Counter-Strike Source
by a lot of the top teams, this league seems to be lost in the mix. The
reality is that this is still the premiere online league in the nation for
Counter-Strike. Can Team Pandemic repeat as champions? Can some of the
teams successfully compete in both 1.6 and Source? Will any of the new teams
contend for the championship? These are all questions that will take time
to answer.
To start off, we'll give our predictions of the Week 1:1 matches that will be
played on de_train. This is
now a regular feature on TeamPandemic.net with a different member of the
Counter-Strike team giving his guest predictions each week. This week
Jonny "Ph33R" Schwan will give his incite about the matches.

With the addition of aZn, the other u5 guys are going to prove that they
deserved having such a beast on their team. Look for them to make a
strong showing to the 1.6 community, as well as their sponsors, that u5
is a force to be reckoned with, even with the transition to Source. No
one has really seen JMC perform on the 1.6 scene as of late, as they
already had a CEVO-P spot secured by their performance last season. JMC
also seemingly is one of the only high profile teams that didn’t make
any roster moves. However, it seems like JMC has been playing a lot of
Source lately and they definitely showed it in their first source match.
In the end, this is still a 1.6 match, so look for u5 to come out with
this one.
Prediction: United 5 defeats Jax Money Crew
18-12 |
Jonny "Ph33R"
Schwan
U5 has undergone a roster change and has been playing a lot of source
lately and hostile hasn't been around much for practice. Meanwhile, we
have JMC who has been in the shade of the shadows lately. I haven't seen
much practice going for either of the teams, but I look for u5 to upset
JMC 16-13.
Prediction:
United 5 defeats
Jax Money Crew 17-13 |

Like u5 getting aZn, I see Flow picking up smoogler as a huge
improvement in their organization. Smoog showed he was back, leading his
x6 boys into battle against
NiP at CPL and coming out on top. Meepins has always been one of those
teams that sticks around never doing much, but they surprised me making
it through the CEVO-P placement tourney. They destroyed e7 and soundly
defeated a strong Turmoil team to finish the tournament with a 2-0
record and a spot in CEVO-P. However, I still feel with some practice,
Flow’s lineup definitely outweighs Meepins’, and I’ll give Flow the
victory here.
Prediction:
Flow Gaming defeats
Meepins 18-12 |
Jonny "Ph33R"
Schwan
In this match we find two teams in Flow and Meepins that have been
working on their game, but to be honest I see Flow just being the more
dominant team and should take it with ease
Prediction:
Flow Gaming defeats
Meepins 23-7 |

Revolution Sports is another one of those teams that I expected to be
run into the ground in the placement tourney, but managed to do well.
After barely beating npu 20-19, they rebounded to simply dominate Flow’s
strong lineup 16-4. However, Pandemic has been playing strong like
always, and look for keen to drop some bombs in his homecoming.

It should be fun to play james and company again and I think we should
be able to take them down again unless luckeyted is goin lucky~

I personally feel that EG is the one team that benefited the most from
the huge roster moves being made recently. With the addition of arguably
North America's best strat caller in tr1p and Canadian beasts grt and
shag, they are in great shape. x3o has also made a strong showing at
their sponsored LAN's tournament and in the CEVO-P placement, but EG is
no random east team.
Interestingly enough, EG had to play its only Canadian rivals in the
Placement tourney, easily beating both IDNM and eMg to cruise into CEVO-P.
x3o definitely earned their spot as they lost to Turmoil, squeaked by
e7, beat IDNM and then defeated Flow to earn the 7 seed.
Prediction:
Evil Geniuses defeats
x3o Gaming 20-10 |
Jonny "Ph33R"
Schwan
EG has undergone a roster change as well and since I believe in
chemistry and roster changes have a huge effect on that, I see this
being a really close match. x3o has been practicing a ton as of late and
could easily upset EG, but I don't really see it happening.
Prediction:
Evil Geniuses defeats
x3o Gaming 16-14 |

Yes you read right. Even with dominator in the match for zEx, I predict
a win for Netfragz. In my eyes, cbz is not in his best Counter-Strike
form and m4g1c hasn't been
playing up to par lately. Netfragz always does solid online, including
playing online from LAN (Intel 5k's). Look for beN (theNut) to drop some
bombs. However,
I’m not too sure on how ready NF is, and happa might be rusty. This
match is definitely the hardest one to predict, as both teams are pretty
unpredictable in their online matches, so it’s pretty much a coin toss.
Based on their past CEVO-P performances, the choice should be zEx but
I'm going to with intuition while keeping this as close as possible.
Prediction:
Netfragz defeats
zEx 16-14 |
Jonny "Ph33R"
Schwan
zEx has picked up a new player. I forgot who, but someone said he was in
3D at one point... ahh who am I kidding they got dominator the deer
hunta! with zEx having a new lineup as well, it could hurt them in this
match. If Phil K and company go insane, I could see netfragz making it
close.
Prediction:
zEx defeats
netfragz 16-14 |
Good luck to all the teams and come back Thursday when we post the
predictions for the Week 1:2 Matches.
** The opinions stated above are those of the predictors and not necessarily
reflective of the views of the organization as a whole. ** |

#3 - Ed, your location shouldn't be Fremont, CA - you go to UCLA =P (Los Angeles).
Starting Fall '07, I might be headed towards south for college - (CSULB) at Long Beach; only gonna be 20 miles away from LA :).
Either that or I'll stay in NorCal as I already got accepted for SFSU & SJSU for Business/Finance, but I really wanna move down and see how it is in SoCal for some reason :o. |

#5 - Well Mark, then I wouldn't have any time for Pandemic :).
On a serious note, even if my grades and acheivements were good enough/allowed me to go to Stanford (which they don't), I prefer a more laidback type of college as CSU's are. Plus, Long Beach is better than most for Business majors as well as:
Best Western Colleges
This school is one of the 123 colleges named a Best Western College by The Princeton Review. Our goal is simple: to identify some of the colleges and universities that we feel stand out within each region.
America's Best Value College
This school is one of the colleges designated as one of the best overall bargains—based on cost and financial aid—among the most academically outstanding colleges in the nation.

#7 - Well even if I went to a community college, I'd be of assistance for Pandemic because I'm that cool. Heh :).
#8 - Fremont/510 is so boring, well at least most parts of it :P. How's it down in LA? |

#13 - What do you mean? The only thing that was not correct was rSports where it was p0s, but that was only because rS recently picked up Perez since p0s dedicating his time with EFG for CS:S, DirecTV, etc. |
