A Starcraft Guide: Map Analysis and Plan Development

Hello everyone and welcome! This is Pandemic's Andre “Gretorp” Hengchua, and I am here to bring you a very special guide that I’ve worked extremely hard on.

This first packet in my series focuses on map analysis and plan development, and I hope to convey these ideas accurately to everyone striving to be a better Starcraft player.

Before you get to the download, first let me explain the importance of why we need to understand Map Analysis and Plan development:


So many times, I see the foreign community waiting for Korean Pro scene to come out with playing the new maps from pro-league, and I say to myself, “Jeesh! We’ve wasted so much time not playing these maps correctly, of course Korea will always have a head start on us!” This mindset of waiting for the pros to come out with builds needs to be altered, and we as the community must start thinking for ourselves. The question is, how do we come about doing this? Hence why we must learn how to analyze maps and develops plans! Also, making a plan on a map we’ve never played on is an essential part of playing correct. Of course we need to play to truly understand maps, but going into maps blindly is poor use of practice time.

This guide can be considered your “textbook” for the first part of map analysis. Because of the sheer mass of this subject, I cannot convey everything in one small document, however rest assured that I will be covering other match ups and ideas.

I will also include a lecture where I will go over everything in more detail and explain things in more detail. Please check up on when I will be streaming that. I will also be recording it for people to see if they missed the stream.
