If anyone watching the eXperience thought the first day was intense, day two here in Roskilde, Denmark was twice as exciting. From upsets to overtimes, emotions soared throughout the eXperience arena as the seemingly ‘predicted’ tournament results were tossed aside to give way to the unexpected. During day two at the eXperience we also saw the first batch of teams eliminated as the bottom finisher in each group was eliminated as well as two rounds of the lower bracket. Quite literally, with all eyes on the prize, Call of Duty 4’s best teams determine the epic ending of arguably one of the best CoD4 events yet.

Storylines

Group Stage complete - After two long days of matches and a few surprises the group stage at the eXperience finally concluded as the ‘predicted’ top teams managed to find their way to the top of the group and advance into the upper bracket. While some teams would have liked a better seed, getting into the upper bracket is still ten times better, and more profitable, than advancing straight to the lower bracket.

XLbet - Bets during day two’s matches were all over the place as some decided to play it safe and bet for the favorite and with the odds while others decided to bet for the underdog. Last I checked, Tosspot was betting for the underdog in nearly every match.

Tosspot’s new career? - While waiting for matches and the arena to be set up many players like to chill out by playing some football (soccer) in a miniature field set up outside the Gimle. Tosspot took on a plethora of challengers and only lost a handful of times. Many contributed his wins to the fact he can take three steps and cross the ‘field’.

Config Cheats - A few players from Druidz were caught with illegal ‘lod’ commands in the their configs and were given a default loss for their final match in group play. The ‘lod’ commands removes map terrain at long distances for better viewing such as tall grass beyond 20 meters only shows up as flat green ground.

Long walks are good - The long walk between the hotel and the venue may actually be doing some good besides the obvious health benefits. When you only have two matches in a single day and one is at 2pm and the other is at 11pm it certainly helps you wake up as you walk to the venue.

Impact - The Italian team that surprised many in the group stage was unfortunately eliminated as they were beaten out of the #3 seed in their group by the Roskilde Ravens and then defeated by the Oslo Lions in the lower bracket. While George and crew may not have gotten the result they wanted, they are still one of the coolest group of guys at the event.

Infused drops Dignitas - Dignitas has been having all sorts of trouble throughout the eXperience which seemed to climax in their first round upper bracket match against Infused. While Infused is certainly a very skilled and talented team, many predicted Dignitas to win. This was hardly the case, however, as Infused battled back from a deficient early in the match to drop Dignitas to the lower bracket.

Ravens down Tek-9 - The host team of Roskilde Ravens pulled off an incredible victory over a Tek-9 team that many believed could shock teams and break out of their 5th place finish at AEF. Unfortunately the AEF hosts were no match for the eXperience’s hosts as Ravens dropped Tek-9 into the lower bracket 13-8.

Still undefeated - The list of undefeated teams grows smaller by the second as LowLandLions tied eSuba in their group stage, leaving only Pandemic and Fnatic. Not to worry though, these two powerhouse’s will be going head to head first thing today.

NCS Gaming eliminated - The only Turkish team in attendance was eliminated as Reason managed to top NCS in the lower bracket. NCS Gaming managed to get 9 rounds against Pandemic in the group stage and nearly beat EG at AEF in their group stage 10-13. It’s a shame such a talented team had to be eliminated so early in the tournament.

EG wins double OT against MYM - Hands down the best match of the event took place yesterday as EG looked to top MYM. Fortunately for MYM, SoClon was back in full force and proved key to leading MYM against EG while rob-wiz continued to impressive as well with the sniper. Battling an uphill journey, MYM managed to tie the game and bring it into overtime where EG pulled out a 2-1 lead on offense. Although many thought EG had the match won, morg cheered his boys on to once again tie the match and be the first team to bring EG into double overtime. Despite excellent play, MYM would not be the first team to actually beat EG in overtime as the match came down to the very last round with superb play from EG to win the match by a nail biting 19-17 margin.

Pandemic shocks eSuba - On the other side of the bracket, EG’s North American comrads were preparing to go head to head with eSuba, one of the few teams the Americans had not faced before. Pandemic came into the match ready to play their hearts out and from round one they did just that. With spectators inside the arena watching in complete shock, Pandemic stacked up round after round on defense with near perfect rotations and amazing clutches to take the half 11-1. With the momentum behind them, Pandemic worked eSuba’s defense, finding its weakness before finally closing the match 13-5.

LowLandLions - The Belgium team has gone above and beyond anyone’s expectations throughout this tournament, winning all their matches with the exception of a single tie game against eSuba on Backlot. L3 plays EG next in the upper bracket semi-finals in what should be an extremely close match considering the way LowLandLions have been playing throughout the eXperience.
