Pandemic.CS - ESEA-I Week 2:1
Pandemic faces off with the current nation's best, EG, in tonight's 'ESEA Match of the Week.'
Pregame:
Finally in the win column, Pandemic had no time to celebrate as their attention immediately turns to EG. If this match were later in the season you can safely bet the hype surrounding it would be massive. Instead, the new Pandemic still have much to prove, and a win tonight would go a long way in doing just that.
EG on the other hand are as hot as ever. Fresh off a gold medal at Intel's IEM America and a very respectable showing overseas at Dreamhack and Arbalet Cup, the Jason Lake runaways are playing so much nearer to their old form. The transition of GFN for Warden -- our own Mason's older brother -- has perhaps put the last piece in their puzzle. They're playing like the champs they are, and slowing them down won't be easy.
Pandemic looked great against an inferior opponent on mill last night. It's no secret they've been playing plenty lately, learning how to work (and win) together as a team... if that hard work and a glimpse of their individual talents combine in the right way with a scarcely-played map such as this one, it might even make for a favorable setting for the underdogs.
Postgame:
Pandemic gave EG all they could handle in the first half. In the end, dropping both pistol rounds and a pair of clutch 1v1s would cut the upset bid short.
The team rattled off 6 straight rounds after falling into an early hole, and it looked like Pandemic would cruise through the end of the first half on the strength of Mason's awp and solid team defense.
EG would resort to the sewers in the 10th round, and goodfornothing narrowly got the opener out of blue door to take control of the upper bombsite. Pandemic still had an opportunity to win the round 1v1, but the close loss would result in a streak of EG's own to end the half behind 7-8.
After dropping the second pistol round, Tubby came one bullet short of a miraculous deagle ace. Short on money and luck, the new Pandemic would eventually fall by a score of 16-8 --- misrepresentative of how close the match actually was.
After the Holidays, play will resume in ESEA-Invite with week 3 matches taking place on de_train.
