With the doubt of CoD:5’s competitive nature, leagues and tournaments return to CoD4 as 2009 looks to kick off another season of CEVO and a spring LAN in early March. In order to keep up with changing Call of Duty landscape as well as evolving competitive community, Pandemic is proud to welcome Nicolas “Nicolas” Aubin into the team’s starting roster to fill the gap left by David “skinz” Patnode.
Patnode joined Pandemic in March 2008 to fill a long time starter’s gap. During his tenure with Pandemic, the team took 2nd in CEVO-P S1, 2nd in TGL-P, 2nd at the NERV Summer LAN, 1st at AEF, 3rd at TEX, and most recently 1st during season 2 of CEVO’s professional league. Unfortunately, due to other interests, Patnode could no longer commit the time necessary and thus Aubin will be the new starting 5th for Pandemic.CoD4.
“I just want to say one thing about our roster, this applying to the past and present. It is never easy switching out a member of our team under any circumstance. We grow and develop a friendship that lasts longer than pandemic can ever offer us. Sometimes these moves have to be made, either from the natural progression of our own responsibilities, or just fundamental performance issues, says Pandemic.CoD4 team captain Joe “nabore” Amorosa.
“The first thing I want to address is the departure of David “skinz” Patnode from our lineup. David was placed in a position on our roster that I felt was one of the toughest, that being an SMG aggressive role on most maps, offense or defense. He played well enough to help us win a championship in Antwerp, so there is no disputing his contributions to our team are top notch. As time passed after Europe, the overall interest in the game itself started to fade somewhat, and questions of bringing the same team over to CoD5 were a dark cloud in everyone’s mind,” continued Amorosa. “David was not sure if he wanted to compete in CoD5 (good choice =D) and pretty much stepped back from an active role on pandemic. With this action in place, the team accepted the fact that we would be on the hunt for a new 5th if anything new came up. This is where Nicolas comes into play.”
Aubin began his CoD4 career making a name for himself with Control during CEVO’s inaugural Finish the Fight tournament, but departed shortly after the event concluded to hook up with the venerated 50 Calibre Gaming. Since then, Aubin has competed in CEVO S1 Amateur as well as CEVO S2 Pro where 50 Calibre took 4th overall.
Amorosa explains, “We expressed our interest in him and he accepted the request to come ring for us whenever we asked. Nicolas came from 50cal, where he excelled in our eyes as their most talented member. He always played hard regardless if it was a scrim that was past the 13 win mark, or if they had ringers. What’s attractive in my eyes is that he is young, motivated, and possesses the same ability that I feel is inside all of my tagged players.”
In closing, Amorosa comments, “The only thing Nicolas lacks is the experience that most of us on Pandemic have, and I feel that is the best problem to have because we all were in those shoes before, and managed to untie them when opportunity knocked at our door. Nicolas will be placed immediately into our lineup and compete with us in any leagues or LANs that come up. Cheers and welcome aboard Nicolas =D.”
