On Thursday night, the Pandemic Team Fortress 2 team survived a marathon of matches, playing a total of three against two top-notch opponents on their way to an Xfire Nvision TF2 Championship and a berth in the finals of the CEVO Sennheiser Open.
The day opened with the upper bracket finals of the Xfire Nvision TF2 Tournament, an eSports Entertainment Association (ESEA)-run online event leading into next week's Nvision 2008 LAN extravaganza. The victors receive top seeds as well as six new Nvidia Geforce 9600 graphics cards, so a lot was on the line for a simple few days online tournament.
In the Upper Bracket finals on cp_well, Pandemic faced off with their current top rival on this side of the Atlantic, Eximius. The map proved hard to predict as neither team had much practice on it during recent weeks and since the recent cp_well map changes, considering it wasn't a consideration in Pandemic's preparation for the ESL Master Series. On one of Pandemic's weaker maps, Eximius played a strong game and took advantages of some Pandemic mistakes to gain a round lead, keeping ahead by one until the score reached 3-2. From there, though, Pandemic corrected some of their errors and began to turn the tide, taking the next three rounds to win the match 5-3.

With one Xfire match down and the finals next in a few hours, it was time for the CEVO Sennheiser Open Upper Bracket Finals against Sway Gaming, broadcast on http://e-rev.tv/ and http://www.pwnage.tv/. You can check out their on demand sections for the details, but suffice to say Pandemic was ready for Sway on cp_well after battling a tough Eximius team on that map just moments earlier. In the end, Sway couldn't muster any sort of attack as Pandemic steamrolled to a 5-0 victory. Pandemic has yet to drop a round in the CEVO Sennheiser Open Playoffs, and they'll look to continue that streak in some 10 days when their eventual finals opponent emerges from the lower bracket.

To cap off a lengthy run of matches, Eximius would yet again be Pandemic's opponent in the Xfire Nvision grand final. With a set of shiny new graphics cards and the top Nvision seed on the line, Eximius would need to beat Pandemic twice on cp_badlands. Needless to say, it would not happen as cp_badlands has proven time and again to be one of Pandemic's strongest maps thanks to their aggressive playstyle that combines individual plays around the map with impeccable timing and teamwork. While Eximius managed to take one round midway through the match, that'd be all they could muster against the Xfire Champions.
