UPDATE: Despite a plethora of delays due to computer problems and teams missing their match times, Pandemic was able to finish out their group stage matches before the venue closed for the evening. Topping their group, Pandemic now advances directly into the playoff double elimination bracket where matches are estimated to begin around 5PM local time or 11AM EST. Today, Team Pandemic’s Call of Duty 4 division packs its bags and flies across the Atlantic to compete in two major cash prize CoD4 tournaments, the Antwerp eSports Festival (AEF) and the eXperience (TEX). The first event, AEF, will be held this coming weekend, July 25th-27th in the Hilton Antwerp Hotel in Antwerp, Belgium. The second event, TEX, will be held at the Gimle center in Roskilde, Denmark from July 31st – August 2nd.
Pandemic.CoD4 will be traveling to JFK airport where they will then take a seven and a half hour flight to Brussels, Belgium. From Brussels, the team will travel to the Hilton Antwerp Hotel were AEF is being held. Assuming flights and other travel details remain on time, Pandemic will be at the Hilton Thursday morning, a day before AEF begins, to setup and recover from the time zone difference.
The Antwerp eSports Festival will use two group stages followed by a double elimination tournament bracket to determine the final teams’ placing. Pandemic has received the #10 overall seed and therefore has been placed in Group J alongside the Ancients from Hungary and iGamerZ eSports from France. Although both teams are well established CoD4 squads in Europe, Pandemic is predicted to advance to the second round of group stage matches with relative ease.
The real challenge for Pandemic will come later in the tournament when they get matched up against numerous top European competitors as well as fellow North American rivals, Evil Geniuses. Although Pandemic has been at the top of the North American Cod4 competition battling EG for almost every title, European experts predict Pandemic to finish around 5th overall.
Team captain Joe “nabore” Amorosa thinks differently, however, stating in a recent podcast interview with Joch Yitch of BASHandSLASH.com, “We’re going over there ready for anything. No one will be using anything we haven’t seen before nor have a plan against.” Continuing further, Amorosa comments how Pandemic’s rivalry between EG has made them a better team overall and he wouldn’t be surprised to see a North American duel across the Atlantic for claim of the AEF championship.
Regardless of Pandemic’s performance at AEF, the team will have a second shot at glory the following weekend in Denmark at the eXperience LAN. TEX features two CoD4 tournaments, an open A-Tournament and a closed B-Tournament in which participation can only be through qualification through the A tournament or direct invite from tournament organizers. The B-Tournament will run July 31st – August 2nd with many of the top competitors from AEF slated to attend as well.
With the best CoD4 competition in the world competing on LAN against one another for the next two weeks, Pandemic looks to reclaim their spot on top as not only the best team in North America, but also the best team in the world!
