Pandemic Shocked at MLG San Diego

Pandemic's incredible run of tournament victories came to an end today in San Diego as GotGame East managed to knock off the #1 ranked team in the world in a 3-0 series of close games, making this the first 3v3 tournament Pandemic has attended and failed to come out with the championship.

Pandemic finished in 7th-8th place.

GotGame East managed to knock off top BG9 contenders CAPSLOCKCREW with their unorthodox Rogue/Rogue/Druid lineup.

Pandemic opted to queue with a double melee assault of their own, taking Warrior, Retribution Paladin, and Restoration Shaman into the opening round with the focus on bringing down GotGame's Druid. Some clutch plays, including an expert warstomp, allowed Sodah to get away and secure GotGame the first game. The next round would be even closer as Pandemic and GotGame traded kills on each others' healers, setting up a 2v2 situation: Warrior/Paladin vs. Rogue/Rogue. Sck managed to lay the finishing blow on Cyberpsychob, but Noktyn dropped moments later, putting the Paladin into a 1v1 situation against Lycra. Both players made expert moves with Sck maneuvering to give himself a chance to bandage and Lycra managing to lay some blows and prevent Sck from drinking. In the end, the two duked it out toe-to-toe with Lycra mustering just enough to grab the finishing blow with only 200 HP remaining.

With their tournament hopes on the line, Pandemic opted to keep their classes while changing specs, switching the Paladin to Holy for a double healer setup. However, their lack of crowd control made it hard to control the onslaught of two Rogues, and in the end they couldn't come out on top.

After a tough loss to European superstars Nihilum, Pandemic will have to battle their way through the lower bracket to claim the tournament title. Their first battle would be Damnatio Memoriae, a team from the Cyclone battlegroup. Pandemic dispatched them handily in three straight games.

After a quick win in the second round, Pandemic participated in a battle of epic proportions against Europe's top contender, Nihilum. Today, though, would be the European's day as they came out strong with their Hunter/Druid/Priest drain team. After taking the first round, Pandemic would tie the series at one apiece thanks to a kill on the pet and some clutch drinks followed by excellent execution and crowd control to knock out the Priest.

After two, Pandemic decided to keep their Warrior/Shaman/Paladin double-healer lineup. In the end, it'd prove unsuccessful as they were unable to win the mana battle in either game, failing to maintain enough pressure to turn the tide in their favor.

Pandemic now is in a position not unfamiliar to them - in their last tournament, at Dreamhack in December, they had to battle their way through the lower bracket to win the event, and that's what they'll have to do now at MLG San Diego.

Yesterday, Pandemic spent six hours preparing their characters for the tournament action that's set to begin later today. With the 4th seed, the team had a bye in the opening round, leading to a second round matchup with Time Not Skill. The game ended quickly as not much more than a warmup for the world champions, setting them up for their next big game.

Pandemic opted for the classic Rogue/Mage/Priest lineup for all three games while TNS opted for Rogue/Priest/Druid for the first two rounds, switching to Warrior/Mage/Priest for the final game.
