After almost a month of dancing around the North American Call of Duty 4 scene, Pandemic finds themselves once again face to face against Evil Genius this Thursday during their regular season TGL-Pro match. The match will take place on Crash, a map neither team has played against one another on.
Currently, Pandemic (4-1) is ranked 3rd in TGL-Pro behind x3o (4-1) and EG (5-0), who is currently leading the division. Besides the history between these two teams at the previous NERV LAN, and more recently, EG’s two map victory over Pandemic for the CEVO-P Season 1 Championship, a win for either team would either keep EG at the top of the rankings, or push Pandemic to the top.
Not to worry, however, as Pandemic has been making quick work out of their opponents across both TGL, FGL and CEVO’s OCZ Tournament. Since losing to EG in the CEVO-P Season 1 Grand Finals, Pandemic has went on to win every match save one against the very talented CEVO-A runner ups Dynamo. Despite being predicted favorites against, Dynamo, Pandemic was forced to play the match without Justin “prank`” DeMara on mp_crossfire, which resulted in an unfamiliar 9-15 loss for Pandemic.
Since that loss, Pandemic has rebounded with their full roster intact defeating Seraphic (19-5), Warchild (13-1) and jCp (13-2) in FGL to advance themselves to the third round of the FGL Playoffs for their shot at the $1,000 first place prize.
In CEVO’s offseason OCZ Tournament, Pandemic has been tearing through the double elimination group bracket with a forfeit win over skull gaming and strong wins over its over (15-9) and paragon (13-2), where they currently sit scheduled to play x3o for their group’s upper bracket finals in hopes to advance to the grand finals bracket.
Pandemic’s TGL road has seen similar success, taking a forfeit win over Frag Dominant and more impressive victories over Dynamic (16-12), MoB Gaming (13-11), and Seraphic (19-5).
With NERV LAN #2 only two weeks away, many are predicting this match a prelude to the NERV finals, where Pandemic and EG are favorites to go head to head for the first LAN title of the summer. NERV LAN #2 will use a group stage format, leading into a standard double elimination bracket. Pandemic received the first seed and was therefore put in Group A where they will play Procore 2, Sadistic Gaming, and Regeneration, to advance to the double elimination bracket.
Crash is an interesting map that plays well to both team’s styles. With their recent addition of Adam “deny” Phan, EG has acquired arguably one of the best spec ops players in the game, who will go toe to toe with Pandemic’s Justin “prank`” DeMara. EG’s widely renowned rifle, Mark “wombat” Larson will also find a tough opponent in Pandemic team leader Joe “nabore” Amorosa.
As for the match at hand, Pandemic remains relatively confident of their ability to keep their winning streak going, staying in top form before the Summer’s LAN season kicks off.
“Crash is one of those maps that you try your best because it's one of the few fun maps out there. It has a little bit of randomness to it that makes offense difficult, but I feel that we are taking the necessary approach to being successful at it. EG has and is going to be strong with their new pickup in Deny. We feel this is an important win for us going into NERV2 and we are looking forward to the match,” says Amorosa.
