| Major League Gaming Adds World of Warcraft |

Since the fall of the World Series of Video Games late last year, the future of competitive World of Warcraft has been relatively uncertain. The game continued to remain popular and garner large sponsor support, yet find no consistent home outside of Blizzard's very own in-house events.
Dreamhack's $45,000 first prize and CGS' Dell Invitational in late '07 both brought renewed hope for arena players worldwide, and the $200,000 Main Event and Worldwide Invitational announced earlier this year continued to keep the hype alive. However, teams were virtually living event-to-event and though rumors would hint otherwise, it was unclear as to wether each stop might be their last.
Today these doubts subside once and for all as Major League Gaming has further cemented WoW's place in esports by announcing its inclusion as the first-ever PC game to be added to the MLG Pro Circuit. From MLGPro.com:
Major League Gaming will add PC gaming to three of its Pro Circuit Stops. The PC Circuit will feature World of Warcraft®: The Burning Crusade® with $22,500 in prizes per event. The entire PC Circuit will be played on the HP Blackbird 002.
* Kick-off event: MLG San Diego, June 13-15th
* Other stops: MLG Orlando, July 11th-13th and MLG Dallas, October 3-5.
* Official PC Circuit game: World of Warcraft®: The Burning Crusade®
* Format: 3-vs-3 - more details on rules and the official format will be released on May 15th.
* Total spots available: 32 teams
* Prizes: $22,500 per event
Stay tuned to mlgpro.com and gotfrag.com for the official press announcement as well as registration information. Registration is expected to open May 15th.
Please note that if you are interested in registering for this tournament, only 32 spots (teams) are available and you will need an MLG Account on www.mlgpro.com in order to register.
MLG's network of websites, including MMO-Champion.com and GotFrag.com, will work to provide coverage and insight into the PC Circuit. GotFrag's premier online-video production, GotFrag TV, will stream live on site from all three events.
Pandemic's WoW squad, who've still yet to be dethroned as the game's six-time 3v3 champion, is already in preparation for the first event slated for June 13-15th in San Diego. Their now very busy summer includes not only these three newly added stops, but the remainder of the Tournament Realm/Main Event qualifier, the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational in Paris, and the regional and world finals of the Main Event (TBD).
Can the team possibly trump their 2007 season?

This will be very interesting.
As far as I know, Gotfrag will basically be administrating the whole tournament, so I'd expect it to be well run by people who know something about PC gaming, if anyone is worried about that. |
