The following is my State of the Call of Duty Union Address.
WSVG: Huge news for the Call of
Duty community. The WSVG has announced that CoD2 will be played at two of their
2007 American stops, Dallas and Orlando. While most of the community was
expecting a BYOC with short cash, WSVG stepped up to the plate and hit a
homerun, offering 20k purse for each stop as well as a non-byoc tournament. With
the stage set for an international title, many teams are finalizing rosters and
actually putting time into practice. Pandemic has already started to use their
time efficiently, following a strict map schedule that will go on until WSVG.
Pandemic will be attending with nabore, crzg, stevE, Miller, and rob-wiz.
TGL: There is talk of a new league
that is forming, one that is invite only and offers a prize purse of $5,000. The
registration for this league is free and what makes this so great is that it
will open the door to better competition, especially if teams want to earn an
invite spot. It is in the preliminary stages at the moment, and they are in
process of gathering opinions on format and finalizing the rule set. When more
information comes available I’ll be sure to let you know.
SOTF9: 16 Teams fully paid
($206/each) in less than two hours says a lot about this event. With a title
held by Pandemic’s core members from SOTF7, look for our guys to defend what
they never had a second chance at in SOTF8. This event features all of the
premier teams except Flow Gaming, who could not register AZK on their roster due
to a permanent ban from SOTF7. Aside from that situation, the event is very
competitive and should be a very interesting one due to the format - single map,
double elimination. The only major criticism comes from the fact that matmata is
repeated in the upper bracket, appearing in round 1 as well as the semi-finals;
and instead, dawnville only appears in the lower bracket. Needless to say,
matmata will be the map to practice for SOTF9.
Conclusion: These are good times for the game.
There are a lot of opportunities present for the current teams to make their
stand and in the upcoming months you will see what separates the men from the
boys. Nades will be thrown and cross-map Thompson headshots will still occur,
however you will start to see people taking things like strategy a lot more
serious. I highly encourage everyone to get his or her travel plans for the WSVG
set up soon so that we can have the most successful events possible.
